A-Line Procedure

Patient’s ___ volar wrist was prepped and cleansed the usual sterile fashion.
A time out was undertaken to determine that this was the correct patient and the correct procedure for this patient.
The radial pulse was palpated and the needle provided in the kit was used to cannulate the radial artery without complication.
Using the Seldinger technique, the arterial line catheter was placed into the radial artery.
The arterial line module was then connected to the catheter and an excellent arterial waveform was noted.
Suture provided in the kit was used to secure the catheter.
This line was used to closely and dynamically monitor this patient’s blood pressure.
A Tegaderm dressing was placed over the arterial line.
The patient tolerated this procedure well and there were no complications.
