The patient’s nurses had difficulty establishing a peripheral IV, so I have been asked to assist in this procedure.
A time out was undertaken to determine that this was the correct patient and the correct procedure for this patient.
The patient’s right upper extremity was addressed.
Ultrasound guidance was used though no images or videoclips were obtained.
A 20-gauge angiocatheter was inserted without complication.
This line had an excellent flash and was easily flushed. The line was secured into place with a Tegaderm dressing. The patient tolerated this procedure well and there were no complications.
